Reputedly the largest entertainment complex in the Midwest for the gay and lesbian crowd, most Minnesotans just think of Gay '90s as a downtown Minneapolis landmark and place to shake their groove-thing. The flamboyant and colorful Gay '90s exterior is hard to miss when driving along Hennepin Avenue. The crowd is mostly made up of gay men and clubbing fans who seek out the chance to dress up and to sip drinks late into the night. Several house bars -- named Gay '90s (the club's namesake), Happy Hour, Dance Annex, Men's Room, La Femme and Retro Bar -- offer variety and choices for entertainment. The main bar area, the eponymous area called Gay '90s, delights with dining and dancing. As for the rest of these microbars, the Dance Annex is the main dance room with DJ-spun tunes and Top 40 hits; the Retro Bar features dance music from the '70s and '80s; Happy Hour is simply a bar without fanfare; the Men's Room is, unsurprisingly, said to be a ''man's bar''; and La Femme boasts of, among other things, drag on stage. You could say this is Minneapolis's mall of gay America.

Friendly??

I been to alot of clubs/bars like the Saloon, Bar 19, the Brass Rail, the Townhouse, and even Over the Rainbow, so don't get me wrong when I say that the 90's is a great place when you go with your of non of color friends; but if you go by yourself as a person of color or a group of who's consists only people of color somehow you do not feel recognized as patrons because of the music selection and service you get from the bar tenders to the bouncers and security makes you feel like why are you here? Most businesses and unfortunately the 90's is one of them who lack the knowledge or basically don't care about how they can meet the needs of the patrons of color. To assume that their needs are the same as the non of color patrons is not only dangerous but an insult such as only playing music from main stream pop culture when there is also great asain/korean rave music. Of course this may or may not apply to non strait women as well seeing as you can only find a few lesbains there. Perhaps with time they will begin to incorporate into their business ways to meet the needs for gays of color; if the 90's does not care I guess it doesn't matter since people of color will only have the buying power of 1.5 trillion dollars in the next couple of years.
