Walking into RJ Rockers is supposed to be like walking into an old-time Irish pub in Chicago. RJ Rockers -- a Spartanburg brewpub -- has all the charm of the Windy Citys Irish pubs with the hospitality of the South. The pub opened in 1996 in a historic building in downtown Spartanburg. Inside, sandblasted brick and hardwood floors create the authentic ambiance.The brewpub stirs up 11 of its own specialty beers for your drinking pleasure. Popular brews include the Kolsch, a full-bodied beer with the taste of an import; Downtown Brown, which tastes a lot like Bass Ale; and The Horse You Rode In On Amber Ale, which has a honey taste.Though college students do come here for the good-tasting beer, RJs mostly caters to the young professional set, including members of the Carolina Panthers. There are plenty of friendly regulars, and close to 500 of them belong to the brewpubs mug club: for $25, theyll hang your own personal glass etched with a number on a rack behind the bar. Aside from being assured a positively sanitary drinking experience, mug clubbers also pay just $1.50 a glass on club nights.In addition to the 25-cent wing nights, trivia nights are wildly popular here.
